Discover Day - Career Explorations

SD73 Trades and Transitions is piloting new Discover Days. These days provide grades 10-12 students across the district to explore and experience career areas that they are interested or passionate about. The aim of Discover Days is to support students to make successful transition decisions by providing opportunities to gain hands-on experiences.

Discover Day: Community Impact - Careers in Non-Profits - October 19, 2023

Are you interested in work that makes a difference in your community? Join the SD73 Career Development Department to learn about community impact, non-profit careers, and volunteerism. This career experience starts at the United Way British Columbia and then students tour several non-profit organizations on the People in Motion Bus.  The tour includes BGC Kamloops, the Mount Paul Community Food Centre, the Mustard Seed, Kamloops Aboriginal Friendship Society, and the Emerald House.

Discover Day: Discover the Law - October 27, 2023

Are you in Grade 10-12 and interested in the justice system and what it really means to be a lawyer? Join the Faculty of Law for a day at Thompson Rivers University to learn about the exciting opportunities that working in law can bring. This career experience will involve local judges, legal jeopardy, law students and a mock dispute.

Discover Day: Day in Engineering - December 7, 2023

The Engineering Department at Thompson Rivers University is hosting a Day In Engineering for secondary students in grades 10-12. Students will explore engineering disciplines and the three programs TRU offers, engage in an engineering problem with local engineers, members of the engineering department and engineering students, and finish their day with learning and interacting with 5th-year software engineering student projects.

Discover Day: Day in Health Care - February 22, 2024

Are you in Grade 10-12 and interested in a career in health care? Join the School of Nursing and the Faculty of Science at Thompson Rivers University for Discover Day. Explore hands-on experiences in advanced simulation labs, speak with employees from Interior Health, and familiarize yourself with the expansive career and educational opportunities in health care.

Discover Day: Rocky Mountaineer - March 7, 2024

Are you in grade 10-12 and interested in learning about rail operations and mechanics? Join the Rocky Mountaineer team for a day at the rail yard to discover more about locomotives, HVAC systems, refrigeration, plumbing, train air brakes, PLC networks, and generators.

Discover Day: Future Women in Mining - June 20, 2024

Are you a female student in grade 10 - 12 and interested in learning about a mining worksite both above ground and underground? Come discover the New Afton Mine site and explore unique careers and options that mining has to offer from business, stem, and mining professionals.
